‘I am unbreakable’…

Unbreakable…..its a strange word, it inspires us to remain strong and never back down no matter how bad our circumstances are.

I know i don’t normally blog on a Friday but last night i came across a website, ‘Project Unbreakable’ was its name, the next hour was the most empowering and emotional roller coaster, and that says a lot for me! I felt angry, strong and in awe all at the same time! Why you ask? Well Project Unbreakable was set up in 2011 by a 19 year old named Grace Brown, the project revolves around victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

All disgusting and shocking crimes in themselves but what struck me most was that, featured on the website were women and men that had sent in quotes of their attackers. The accounts and feelings that victims were describing were heart wrenching and stomach rolling. All the situations were disgusting, humiliating and saddening, yet the people who had sent their images in were some of the strongest and most courageous people i had come across in a while. Despite their ordeals they refused to be beaten by what had happened to them, they had the courage to speak out through the website and share their images with the world when even some of the people closest to them don’t know what they have been through.

I know how hard it can be to speak out, especially about something that haunting, but i hope that this website and these survivors can continue to inspire other survivors to speak up and be heard. If anyone is reading this and has been in a situation like this, don’t be afraid, even if you don’t know it you are strong and wont let this beat you!

The above link is for the website and the below links are for their Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages, please please please take a moment to visit any of these in respect of those people who took a leap of faith.
